Tips to Be a Happy Twin Dad

Let’s face it: being a father of twins can be overwhelming. Balancing the responsibilities of fatherhood and work can weigh you down.

However, having twins isn’t all doom and gloom. There are many things about being a father of twins that are awesome. You can find great happiness as you parent your twins. Here are some tips to be a happy twin dad regardless of how crazy your days tend to be: Enjoy Double Hugs and Kisses What is greater than coming home and getting hugs and kisses from two enthusiastic children? I cherish the moments when I come home from work and my kids swarm the door to welcome me. Find joy in that moment when your twins first see you after being apart for the day or in the morning when they wake up.Always Someone to Cuddle Sometimes your twins take turns being in bad moods. That’s OK. Don’t worry! Because you have two, there is always one you can cuddle with. Be Grateful for Your Twins Twins are miracles. Your very own twin journey may have been full of health issues and big scary surprises. Now that your twins are here, be grateful. Counting your blessings helps you realize just how much you have and the joy that brings you. Serve in the Home Happiness comes from helping and serving others. When you focus your time and attention on caring for your twins, wife, and family, your personal problems are put in perspective. Serve selflessly in your home and you’ll be happier for it. Plan Ahead Even little tasks with twins can be a logistical nightmare that can lead to stress and frustration. Running errands or visiting Grandma? Plan ahead. Think through what you’ll need and how the schedule will go. By anticipating your needs, you’ll be ready and any outing with your twins will go more smoothly. Smooth = happy. Be Prepared When we were expecting our twin girls, we took great comfort in making preparations. By acting on what we could control and prepare, it took our mind off things that were outside of our control (like potential twin pregnancy complications). There can be a lot of crazy surprises with twins. When you focus your efforts on preparations and things you can control, you’ll be happier. Enjoy the Little Moments Because you have twins, you will be (out of necessity) more involved in caring for your children. Enjoy the one on one time with your twins. The little joys of day-to-day life pass so quickly. Changing diapers, feeding, soothing, cuddling, dressing, and playing with your twins all offer opportunities to get to know your individual children better. Elite Fraternity Not many dads get to be fathers of twins. How cool are you? Plus nothing makes you feel more like a man than holding both twins at the same time. This is an opportunity to shine as a father. Enjoy your elite status in the fraternity of fathers of twins.Dad's Guide to Raising Twins: How to Thrive as a Father of Twins.
