Aylin and her twin brother Alfredo won\’t have to share a birthday
Twins born just 15 minutes apart ended up with birthdays in different years – an event that some estimates suggest has a chance of around one in 2 million of happening.
Mother Fatima Madrigal gave birth to baby Alfredo Antonio Trujillo at 11:45 p.m. on New Year\’s Eve, the Natividad Medical Center announced.
Just 15 minutes later, as the clock struck midnight, Alfredo’s sister Aylin Yolanda Trujillo was born in a new year with a different birthday.
Aylin weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces. and was the first baby born at Natividad Medical Center and in Monterey County in 2022. Her big brother, Alfredo, weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce.
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” said Madrigal in a press release from the medical center in California. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”

Across the US, around 120,000 twins are born every year, making up just 3% of all births.
Family doctor at the medical centre, Dr Ana Abril Arias, called the twins’ birth “one of the most memorable” of her career.
“It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the new year,” she said

The two babies are welcomed home with their mother and father Robert Trujillo to meet three older siblings – two girls and a boy.
Madrigal said her oldest son is excited that one of the babies was a boy. She says her family couldn’t wait to meet them.
