Can babies and kids use deodorant?
There is no standard age for kids to start wearing deodorants because kids develop differently. Some kids sweat a lot and develop body odor earlier than their peers. Nowadays you’ll find a 7-year-old having a body odor after playing or engaging in a physical activity. Toddlers rarely have strong body odors unless there is an underlying disease or they are under medication. For toddlers, body odors normally go after taking a bath. For this reason, it’s not necessary to use deodorants on toddlers and babies.Kids who are 6 years and older can use deodorant because they play a lot and can develop body odors. This is a decision that has to be made by a parent; depending on the condition or situation of the kid and also what is good for them. Remember body odor comes when the skin bacteria mixes with sweat. So if a child sweats a lot, chances of developing body odor are high.Most parents are a bit skeptical about buying deodorants for their kids! Why? Because they think that their kids aren’t old enough to use them, or they fear that the kids might react badly to them since most deodorants on the shelves contain harmful ingredients. There are safe deodorants that can be used by kids. Most of these kids’ deodorants are organic; which means it uses natural ingredients and doesn’t have harmful chemicals like Aluminum, Triclosan, Talc, Parabens and others.Before thinking of deodorants, make sure your child observe proper personal hygiene by:- Showering daily (preferably in the morning) with soap and after any sporting activity. They should also wash all the body parts that produce odors like the armpits, genital area and feet.
- Changing their clothes daily, including the underwear and the socks.
- Wearing cotton or woolen fabrics since they absorb body moisture. The fabric should be loose to allow enough space for breathing.
- Eating healthy. Diet is also very important because it can contribute to body odor. Children should be given a healthy and well-balanced diet; they should avoid junk and spicy food.
