The ultrasound tech checked the second uterus and, to everyone’s surprise, found another baby. The chances of this happening are really low. In the US, around 3.6 million babies are born each year, but only about 114,000 of them are twins. Kelsey’s condition is also rare, affecting about 1 in 2,000 women.To get pregnant in both uteruses at the same time, two eggs had to be fertilized, one in each uterus. This kind of situation is super rare, with estimated odds of about 1 in 2 billion.Kelsey feels lucky because some women with her condition can only use one uterus for a pregnancy, so this is a very rare twin pregnancy. Her medical records show she has carried babies in both uteruses, just not at the same time.Dealing with such a rare twin pregnancy, Kelsey’s doctor, Dr. Shweta Patel, admits they don’t have much guidance. The twin girls are doing well, but the chance of having the babies early is higher with twins.
