Becoming a mom is magnificent, but it can be very debilitating and challenging.
Just because you became a new mom and you are not using makeup like before, doesn’t mean that you have to neglect your skin care approaches and routines.
Most pregnant women take a lot of care of themselves – they are very careful about what kind of products (whether skin products or others) they use.
But after giving birth, they simply fail to look after those things because they are strived on attending to their baby. It doesn’t have to be like that, taking skin care doesn’t have to be time-consuming or demanding. Anyone can and should take care of their skin.
That’s why we have some easy and quick skin care tips for new moms.
Stress
It’s completely normal for the skin to become dull and tiresome during and after pregnancy. The whole organism went through a lot and of course, that will reflect on the skin quality. We are not gonna lie, maternity is very often stressful. Stress can play a tremendous role when it comes to your skin, so focus on overcoming stress to start. Get as much rest as you can, any time you can. Aim to sleep when the baby sleeps and take power naps frequently. If you are able to, exercise or go for a walk every now and then.
Your skin will be grateful.
Have a skin care routine
Taking a couple of minutes from the busy daily schedule to cleanse your face will mean a great deal, especially in the long run.
Due to many factors, (including hormonal changes caused by pregnancy) you might have to deal with:
- Hyperpigmentation (irregular darkening of the skin or uneven skin tone). To prevent hyperpigmentation and brighten your skin, it’s essential to exfoliate and use sunscreen on a regular basis.
- Melasma AKA the pregnancy mask. Minimize sun exposure during peak hours, wear UV protective apparel, and sunscreen to prevent it.
- Stretchmarks. To prevent stretch marks, control your weight, include lots of vitamins and minerals in your diet (Vitamin C, D, E, Zinc…). If you, like 90% of pregnant women cannot prevent them, treat them with stretch mark creams as soon as they appear.
- Acne. Even if you never had them, they might appear after giving birth. Cleanse your face twice a day using micellar water combined with cotton rounds. Micellar water is great for removing the oil, sweat, and dirt from your face. Also, make sure to use the moisturizer which will deliver the much-needed hydration that your skin demands.
You can also take baby products. Whether it’s body oil, lotion, or cream, they are absolutely safe so take some of your baby products and apply them to yourself – you’ve earned it.
You are what you eat
We know, this is such a cliché, but it’s a fact.
The idea of ignoring your body because of the baby, and especially if you are breastfeeding, is simply terrible.
Eating balanced and healthy meals (including fruits & vegetables) and getting enough liquids, will give you more than needed energy and it will reflect on the whole organism, including your skin.
Conclusion
Even though having a baby is a wonderful thing, your maternity duties will carry on for a long time.
Stress & lack of sleep will be common and they can greatly contribute to your skin quality.
Never overlook taking skin care of yourself with these tips, just because you are preoccupied with the baby.
Looking and feeling bright & healthy is possible, no matter what, and we hope that this post helped you recognize that.
